Train for Strength and Fitness
A Message From Publisher Phil Elmore
Fitness and conditioning are important and often overlooked aspects of self-defense training. Coach Scott Sonnon, internationally recognized fitness expert and Sambo champion, first contacted me before this publication was born. Earnest, amiable, and amazingly humble, Coach Sonnon asked if I would be interested in reviewing some of his products for PhilElmore.com.
I accepted, knowing little about Coach Sonnon or his work. When I finally started going through the material, I could not get enough. I liked what I saw. More importantly, however, Coach Sonnon's material really helped me. (His Leg Fencing tapes, for example, helped me develop the skills I needed to earn a new rank in one of the martial arts I study.)
I had the pleasure of editing an early version of Coach Sonnon's book, Body-Flow. While I was primarily responsible for changing structure and content and therefore had no control over the final version of the book, it was a real treat to get such early insight into what has become one of the cornerstones of Coach Sonnon's performance enhancement curriculum.
While Clubbells and their associated training program are the items probably most closely associated with Coach Sonnon, no exploration of his programs is really complete without a look at Body-Flow and the groundbreaking work he's done on the topic.
As this is is an online publication, at least in part, it's important to point out one thing: Coach Sonnon is the target of some of the most intense examples of online harassment, trolling, and even stalking that I have ever seen. This is due primarily to the fact that people who accomplish a great deal automatically become targets. If you're online and you read negative comments about Coach Sonnon and his work (or even The Martialist and its publisher), keep this in mind.
Coach Sonnon's RMAX organization is The Martialist's officially endorsed source for physical fitness and conditioning information and products. Specifically, The Martialist endorses Coach Sonnon's Clubbell curriculum.
